First dates – from a man’s point of view, from a woman’s point of view

Because I’m in the relationship business, I hear a lot about those “awful first dates” – from both men and women. Sometimes the complaint is, “The other person did all the talking and didn’t learn anything about me.” Other times I hear, “I had to do all the talking and ask all the questions.”

Learning a few simple techniques can help change these scenarios and ultimately lead to more successful first dates.

Did you know?

I thought it would be fun this week for you to “peek” into the thoughts of “the other team” to learn more about what the opposite sex is thinking.

Advice for women
Did you know you’re in the driver’s seat when it comes to online dating? There are many more men on online dating sites than there are women. (Contrast this with “single” dances, mixers, and socials where the women usually outnumber the men.) So, here is your chance to take advantage of some great odds by using online dating.

Advice for men
Did you know that most women are just as nervous about talking to you the first time as you are about talking to them? Taking the time to learn what to say to put them at ease will help both of you feel more relaxed during your communications. Before launching into your first conversation with her, prepare a list of questions from information you’ve read in her profile. Then you’ll be more confident and able to avoid those awkward silences.

Different dictionaries for men and women

Many coaching clients tell me what a surprise it is for them to discover that men and women have different “dictionaries” inside themselves.

Imagine the miscommunication that can occur – right from the beginning – if you haven’t discussed each other’s “definitions.”

A different “definition” that came up when my husband and I began dating was around finances.
